The Carl James Dunlap Memorial Student Award supports University of Washington students with disabilities who are pursuing their educational goals and working toward rewarding careers. We are proud to honor our scholarship recipients and celebrate their achievements, perseverance, and contributions to the UW community. Examples of some of the many award recipients are shared below.
2026 Recipients
 | SarayahUW Seattle Sarayah is a graduate student in Information Management at the University of Washington, with a passion for ethical technology, accessibility, and storytelling. Her work is shaped by lived experience and a commitment to creating systems that center equity, resilience, and human dignity. | JobanUW Seattle "I am passionate not only about advancing the barriers of technology and computing through fields such as AI and Neural Networking but also about enshrining accessibility in computing and fighting for social justice as whole. I have chosen to dedicate my life to take my love of history, politics, and computer science and turn them into powerful machines powering forward for the greater good. I was born with a severe form of flat feet and had little arch on either of my feet, which means that I have worn extremely expensive orthotics for practically my entire life, always with the fear of losing them. This generous award will greatly help alleviate the financial burden that this has placed on my family for practically my entire existence, and for that I would like to sincerely thank the creators and funders of this scholarship." |
